Celebrating Our 33rd NYC ABE Conference Year!
Dear Program Managers and Adult Educators,
In 2012, the Consortium for Adult Basic Education will be celebrating its 33rd annual conference year with the theme of “Innovating and Connecting in Adult Education”. We are inviting your organization to participate in our ABE Conference to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Fashion Industries High School in Manhattan. In 2012, we expect to have the following format:
- Panel Discussion
- Presenter-centered/traditional model
- Inquiry-based/participant-centered
For the past thirty-two years, the ABE Conference has served the staff-development needs of BE, ESOL, BENL, PRE-GED, GED, and CTE ( Career & Technical Educators) in New York City. As educators, trainers, counselors, volunteers, and administrators of programs, the Consortium remains on the forefront of the challenges facing the city’s vast literacy community. This year, we will be celebrating thirty-two years of ABE professional development. Adult Literacy Programs continue to be a motivating force for adult learners to gain language proficiency leading to a GED and/or further education and training, a better job, and a more active role in the affairs of the community.
For many years, the Adult Basic Education Conference has provided a forum for the tremendous creative energy and talent in the field and has addressed critical issues that deeply impact adult education. Adult educators and volunteers like those in your program need professional contact and support. They also need to engage in dialogue, share their creative teaching practices, and build partnerships with their peers and colleagues.
The NYC Consortium for ABE is interested in presentations that highlight outstanding and innovative practices as well as capture relevant issues affecting our field. Presenters are encouraged to actively involve teachers and students in the workshop, to use audio-visual aids, group activities, and to use open/panel/round table discussions in designing their presentations. Collaborative submissions are always welcome. A limited number of large workshop spaces are available for any workshop format involving large numbers of attendees.
We encourage all staff members and volunteers in your organization to present and participate in the 33rd annual ABE Conference in New York City on April 28, 2012 Presenters should fill out the application found on the “Call To Presenters” TAB above and send it to the address at the bottom of the page.
We look forward to hearing from you!
